EVENTS
October 4 – Boot Scootin’ Boogie Line Dance Workshop
Join us for a lively line dance workshop designed for dancers with some experience. The afternoon begins at 2:00 pm with a warm-up and review of basic line dance steps. At 2:30, Jay, Krystyna, and Collene will each introduce a new dance. Then from 3:00 to 4:30, the floor opens up for an energetic session of favourite routines from their classes. Come for the learning, stay for the fun!
October 8 – The Beat Goes On!
Dr. Courneya will share fascinating insights into how the heart works—both as a powerful pump and as a generator of its own electrical signals. She will also guide us through important topics such as heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias, helping us better understand the marvels and challenges of this vital organ. Admission by donation; no pre-registration required. Seating is limited, so arrive early!
October 16 – Friendship Tea
Join us this month for treats and good company. Friendship Tea is held every month on the third Thursday from 2 to 4 pm. It’s free!
October 25 – Halloween Disco Party
Get ready to groove on October 25th for a spook-tacular night of Halloween meets Disco! John and Krystyna will be spinning all the hottest tracks from the disco era, keeping the dance floor alive with whatever gets the crowd moving. Come dressed to impress in your favourite disco threads or Halloween costume—there will be prizes for the best looks! Tickets are just $15 in advance (available at the SSAC front desk or A Little Brit of Heaven) and $20 at the door. A bar stocked with beer, wine, and cider will keep the good vibes flowing, plus there’s a 50/50 draw to add to the excitement. Doors open at 6:30, and the party kicks off at 7:00 with non-stop music and dancing until 10:00 pm. Don’t miss this night of fright, funk, and fabulous fun!
November 2 – Memories Are Made of this
Enjoy an entertaining musical show for all ages while supporting the SSAC! Presented by The Fundamentals, produced by Joe D’Souza, with musical direction by Joanne Chiasson, this lively performance promises a wonderful night of music and community spirit. Tickets are $20 in advance (available at the SSAC front desk or at A Little Brit of Heaven) and $25 at the door.
If there is an activity you would like to attend, but is not on our schedule, please reach out and talk to Gill, SSAC Manager. Please note that weekend activities are subject to change.
SSAC STORIES
Muchas Gracias to the Julio Avila Cuban Band!
The band played to a very enthusiastic, sold-out crowd on Saturday, June 21st. They played a selection of salsa, son, bachata, bolero, and cumbia which packed the dance floor!
My Journey with the SSAC
I started working as the Front Desk Administrator at the SSAC in January of 2025., but I have been involved with the Centre for a decade already.
Global TV Story Ignites 50/50
When the story on our 50/50 Seniors Lottery aired on Global TV, lottery ticket sales soared! With ticket sales up, the June winner received a whopping $7,038 prize!
Going with the Flow
Thank you for being with us for another exciting month at the SSAC. The month's highlight was the completion of the renovated reception area.
Can Bingo be Resurrected?
Our Class A gaming licence has expired. We need volunteers to form a team to carry on this valuable and enjoyable activity at the Centre.
What a Night! What a Band!
The Steve Hinton Band never fails to show us all a good time and they did it again on May 17th.
Our Ode To Joy
Welcome to an exciting new month at the SSAC to all of you, especially our new members.
Thanks For Your Generosity
We are continually grateful for the generosity evident from the continuous stream of funds gifted to our donation programs.
Dancing with Spindrift Street
Despite being held on Easter weekend, the April’s dance with Spindrift Street had a good turnout and everyone had fun.
SSAC Endowment Fund
In order to achieve sustainable financial stability, we have established a SSAC Endowment Fund that will generate revenue from interest accrued each year. This fund is to be administered by the Sunshine Coast Foundation.
Affordable Lunch Program
The aim of the Affordable Lunch donation program is to avoid increases in the price of our entrées, and keep it fixed currently at either $10 or $12. Every member deserves a great affordable meal in the wonderful environment of the Centre.
General Revenue Donations
Gifts to general revenue are particularly vital to enable us to deal with large, unexpected costs. You can donate to us at the front desk by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. You can also download and print the form and mail it to the Centre with your cheque.
