Be Calm, Be Kind and Be Safe

Holiday Turkey Dinner

Emily is preparing a holiday dinner, for takeout only. Turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings for $15. Please pre-order by December 14. Pick-up set for December 17, as we will be serenaded by the Ukulele players with Christmas carols.

To make pick up quicker and easier, we ask that orders be pre-paid. Pick-up will be at the auditorium.

Centre Holiday Hours

SSAC will be open regular hours on December 20, 21, and 22. We will be closed on Thursday, December 23 and reopen Tuesday, January 4. As we are a volunteer-run facility, this allows everyone to enjoy time with family and friends over the holidays.

Reopening Plans

SSAC is fully reopened and we look forward to inviting our members back. We are taking small steps to ensure you are welcomed into a safe environment and we ask for everyone’s patience over the next few months as we work out kinks in the process that are sure to appear. It has been a long nineteen months and we are dealing with ongoing and changing restrictions. With most of our members in a higher risk category for negative consequences to viral infection the Board continues to be cautious in all decisions.

Masks or face shields are required in common areas such as the lobby, halls, and washrooms. Individual room capacities remain at reduced levels to ensure physical distancing is maintained. To meet BC Vaccine Passport requirements, members must provide confirmation they are fully vaccinated. This will permit masks to be removed for some activities and for dining at the Centre. We will have posters throughout the Centre, along with copies of the rules and activities for which masks may be removed. For our members who have not been fully vaccinated, frozen entrees can be purchased to enjoy at home. Dine-in lunches are for fully vaccinated members only, as masks must be removed for eating.

Please remember to bring your membership card with you for every visit. Past/Future members who need assistance with renewing or buying new memberships are welcome to come to the office on weekdays from 11 to 2 starting immediately.

We are now open for kitchen and activities

We are excited to be welcoming you back as we long for the social connections we have been missing for so long.

·  Memoire Writing (the how to)
·  Dram Group
Walkers Group/Bird Watchers

Call for Volunteers

Now that SSAC has reopened with activities and food service, we are looking for volunteers to fill some gaps. We need a small team to do a monthly deep-clean on the kitchen. We also need help with event set up and tear down. If you wish to apply to volunteer, please email ssac@dccnet.com with the subject line: Volunteer Inquiry. You can also click here to use our online form.

PassCards Now Available

Convenient “PassCards” for five dollar SSAC activities may now be purchased. You can purchase either a $25 card (5 activities) or a $50 card (10 activities). This eliminates the need for stuffing our pockets full of fives so we can enjoy our activities. Hold on to your card, as it is the same as cash. Each time you attend an activity, one circle will be marked off by the Activity Chair. When the final circle is marked off, the card is to be returned with the sign-in sheet for that day. If the cost of activities prohibits you from attending and enjoying the Centre, please see Lori, Centre Manager. If this pilot project is successful, we will consider similar pass cards for $4 activities.

Note: Tai Chi is a community program, and the PassCard cannot be used. Please bring cash for Tai Chi on Thursday mornings.

Frozen Entrées

One of the most beloved of programs offered at SSAC has had nothing to do with exercise, or learning, or even socialization. It has to do with food!
