The weather outside seems to sense that I am writing an article for our September issue.
Gone – at least for the day – are the clear, blue skies of summer and the term ‘sweater weather’ quickly comes to mind. But I’m certain there are more sunny days just around the corner, so for now my fall wardrobe will remain in the back of my closet.
Here at the Centre, we’ve been happily surprised with how busy it has been over the summer months. While typically a slower period, participation in several activities has increased and the dining room remains a very popular lunch spot. Our 40th Anniversary BBQ and Open House was well attended, as well. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to enjoy some fellowship and burgers prepared by the Sunshine Coast Rotary Club.
Behind the scenes, it is time for the team and Board of Directors to begin the important work of preparing next year’s budget and developing a new multi-year strategic plan. Key to both will be major gifts received from two generous members – a 6-figure gift of securities that was received last fall, and a $100,000 donation received in August.
Both donors took advantage of tax credits offered by the government to make the most of their philanthropic contributions. If you would like to discuss making a major gift, please reach out. I can be reached at or ask for me at the front desk.
Part of this work is a review of our programs, activities, and capacity constraints, but as always, our priority is you, our members, and making sure we continue to offer a broad range of engaging programming that helps you meet your social, creative and wellness goals.
Don’t forget that on Saturday, September 19th, the 7-piece band – Ocean Park Wailers – will bring music from the ’70s and ’80s and a tribute to the Beatles to our auditorium for your listening and dancing pleasure. Get your tickets today at the front office.
