Welcome to November, more than seven months into a health emergency that continues to give us little hope of returning to what once was normal. Trying to predict the future is like guessing the winning lottery numbers.
On September 21, 2020 a snap election was called by the NDP’s leader John Horgan, and for the Sunshine Coast, the SSAC became the Elections BC Headquarters.
The Elections BC rental has provided a financial boost that essentially reverses losses from the forced closure due to COVID-19. Meanwhile, unforeseen expenses have arisen.
Closing the Centre for more than 4 months due to Covid-19 has severely impacted SSAC’s bottom line. Through this summer, it became clear that action had to be taken to resolve our worsening financial status.
Everyone wants to be fit and healthy, but not everyone can go to the gym especially due to government lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic. The good news is, staying fit can be done from the comfort of your own home.
Over the past 7-plus months, we have faced challenges aplenty. We’ve struggled to maintain life patterns that keep us healthy. We’ve adjusted to a view through foggy glasses over too tight masks.
Community members gathered at the SSAC to honour a former Sechelt resident for his significant contribution to the climate change movement on the Coast. On the SSCA roof above them, 28 solar panels were hard at work, saving the SSAC over $100 a month in Hydro bills.
